Michele Russell

Michele first studied Art and Pottery in the 70s, in Bingley West Yorkshire. From a young age she had a vivid imagination, enjoying both abstract and representative art form.

She gained the qualifications and was offered a place at Bradford Art College, her dream at that time was to become an Art Therapist or Art Teacher. However due to circumstances her career took the direction of Nursing which she continues to find rewarding.

Emotional expression, play an important part in both her work life and her personal life, always open to new experiences transferable to her artwork. Nature, the seasons, places, and people have influenced her creativity. Her earlier work took a very delicate representation of nature, loving the colours and detail of flowers.

Following a very stressful day in clinic, she impulsively attended a Contemporary Art class facilitated by a well-known American artist. This relit her passion for abstract, her first work had a similarity to “Jackson Pollock”.

Now she collects items she is drawn to, which merge into her work. Her artwork evolves using acrylic paint on canvas or wood, experimentation with texture from sponge, brush strokes and hands building depth to her work.

She uses a holistic approach in both her work life and artwork, providing a sense of mindfulness, emotional expression, and calm. Her work has been described as eclectic.

As Michele’s confidence in her work has increased, she has exhibited her work in local small venues and her workplace. The comments and open interpretation of her work from others is fascinating to hear.
